The authors provide a cogent historical survey of the development of the Caribbean novel within the context of broader developments such as colonialism, decolonization, and post-colonialism. Essays on eight novels by prominent Caribbean novelists explore their major themes and concerns. In addition, a number of shorter essays examine other novelists and their writings.
