Agnes "Nes" Murphy-Pujols thinks she knows what to expect when she's transplanted from Brooklyn to a small Southern town mid--senior year. Her plan is simple: keep her head down, graduate and get out. Of course, nothing ever goes as planned. Not from day one, when she makes enemies of the school's reigning belle and the principal, and the school's golden boy, Doyle Rahn, starts going out of his way to make her feel welcome.
The color of her skin wasn't something Nes thought about constantly back home.
