More DescriptionPan Islamism is a centuries old concept. This envisages Muslim Ummah to be united, transcending geographical boundaries and the cultural diversities. Despite having strong commonalities like Quran, Sunnah and a glorious past, Pan Islamism seemed to be a distant dream. Apparently, no serious efforts were put in to pursue the realization of this ideology. History speaks for itself as the Ummah was never found united on any issue may it be the Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq or Afghanistan. As the Ummah stood divided in last one century, the Ummah itself, by and large failed to the understand the concept in its true perspective. It will not be far from truth that that the concept was harmed by the Ummah more than the outside world. On the other hand, global environments have gone through remarkable changes. Looking through the perspective of Muslim Ummah, these changes are of immense significance. Challenges encountered by Muslim Ummah today are far different from those which existed when the philosophy of Pan Islamism took birth. Ummah not only faces internal instability and crisis but also is engaged in a so called clash of civilizations. Colonialism of past two centuries has been replaced by neo-colonialism and the growing power of the west in conjunction with the ideological expansionist designs once again threatens the integrity and sovereignty of the Ummah.
