More DescriptionThe Optimizing STEM Student (OS2) project targets two and four-year college students and provides an intervention to support the retention of students pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The workbook is designed to augment traditional STEM instruction by uniquely teaching to both the cognitive and affective learning domains while being grounded in strategies, techniques, and exercises that are directly applied to STEM coursework. The OS2 project is centered on a conceptual model of three components: intellectual self-awareness, emotional self-awareness, and balance, and is implemented via classroom curriculum, professional development training, assessment tools, and an online e-learning platform. The workbook is geared toward empowering students with the tools and strategies to take their learning experience into their own hands. It prepares the instructor to take a 360 degree look at the student, by preparing them to teach to both the cognitive and affective domains. In addition, trained instructors will have access to tools to evaluate the progress of students through a student assessment instrument, and an online e-learning platform that will monitor the progress of students.
