The theme of this historical novel is based on the true story a family in conflict. The main focus is KK's love for his family, especially, his daughter, Elizabeth, who comes of age and is inadvertently left behind as the family flees to safety. Marietta is a highly populated area north of Atlanta, which enjoys and markets its historical background. The actual Shockley home is located in the historical district, and family members are buried in the city cemetery. Elizabeth Shockley was my great-grandmother.
