More DescriptionBorn in the 135-year-old family homestead nestled deep in wooded Dry Creek, Louisiana, Bill Iles has had from birth an intimate connection with the surrounding pine woods and cypress swamps so indicative to the local landscape. The geography of Iles' childhood home would later bear a great influence on the recurring motifs in his landscape paintings. As an adult, Iles earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and taught art for twenty-five years at McNeese State University, twenty of which were as head of the Visual Arts Department. Although not just a landscape artist, Iles returns with regularity to the subject matter that shaped his early perceptions. Landscapes Bill Iles is a portfolio retrospective of the artist's landscape paintings and several drawings from 1993 to 2015. The 106 page portfolio features over 75 color reproductions of his best landscape works. Iles' landscapes are not literal representations of what he sees but are amalgamations of memory, imagination, and perception. The images have a transcendental quality that reflects the artist's view of nature.
