Poet and translator Michael Palmer was born in New York City in 1943. He attended Harvard University where he earned a BA in French and a MA in Comparative Literature.
He has translated the works of a number of poets and his own poems have been translated into more than 20 languages. More than one hundred of his poems have been collected into a comprehensive worked entitled The Lion Bridge: Selected Poems, 1972-1975.
Palmer is the 2006 recipient of the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets. This $100,000 (US) prize recognizes outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry. He currently lives in San Francisco.
