The challenges you face might bevery familiar or totally unprecedented. Youmight have little or no time to prepare, andyou could have nothing but your own witsto guide you. The success of your missionmight depend in part or completely on yourability to solve problems and think quickly.Your job as a contingency contractingofficer (CCO) is acquiring the items neededto support the mission. While doing thisjob, you should be aware that many foreignbusiness cultures expect kickbacks, finder'sfees, exchanges of gifts, or other gratuitiesthat are illegal for U.S. personnel to provideor accept. You should always ensure thatethics regulations are closely observed. As aCCO, you must be vigilant in advising U.S. commanders, requirementspersonnel, and CCO-appointed representatives about practices thatmight violate standards of conduct.
