Ann Ireland was born on May 19, 1953. She received a B.F.A. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 1976. She taught creative writing at the Chang School in Ryerson University since 1991. Her first novel, A Certain Mr. Takahashi, won the Seal Books First Novel Award and the Books in Canada First Novel Award. It was later adapted into a movie called The Pianist. Her other novels include The Instructor, Exile, The Blue Guitar, and Where's Bob? She died on August 23, 2018 at the age of 65.
