Brain Storms The culmination of retirement, age and the peaceful life of rural America is the perfect setting for reflection about the natural events that, “like a metronome of man’s mortality” mark one’s passage. Dave Torrence has had time to ponder his awe for the natural world, his frustration with modernity and his acknowledgement of aging. Calling on his experience as an outdoorsman, an early morning newsboy and an educator with a fascination with mythology, he has expressed an overall sense of beauty and his thoughts and observations about the four seasons, weather phenomena such as clouds, rainbows, sunrise and sunset, plants, seasonal blossoms and animals in free verse. Nor has he omitted aspects of living in general. Having a background in the social sciences, he has expressed his thoughts and observations of the nation, humanity, aging, destiny and death. He has subtitled his work: Thoughts of an Aging Mind. |
